Kampala, (UG):- The Deputy Lord Mayor for Kampala, Ms Doreen Nyanjura has revealed that her young brother Albert Cook Tugume was shot three times by gunmen before jumping on a waiting boda boda motorcycle in a fierce mobile money shop raid in Ntinda on Thursday evening.
Tugume, 33, who operated a mobile money shop along Central Road in Ntinda-Kigoowa in Nakawa West Division, a Kampala urban suburb was shot at around 8 pm before thugs fled off with unspecified sums of money, his mobile money agent lines and phones, and other valuables, according to Nyanjura.
“My young brother, Tugume Albert Cook Apuuli aged 33 years was shot dead by gunmen a few minutes past 8:00 PM on Thursday 21st Nov 2024 at his mobile money and agent banking shop on Ntinda Kiwatule Road (Muvule, central road). Cook attempted to take off from the gunmen but he could only run so far, the cowards shot him three times and took off with his bag containing the money, mobile agent lines and bank agent machines. The gunmen jumped on a waiting boda boda and took off!” Nyanjura posted via social media handle X at 3:02 am Friday.
The Deputy Lord Mayor added that another person, a Boda Boda cyclist who attempted to stop the assailants from their loot was also shot at and injured in the aftermath, and is currently nursing critical injuries at Mulago Hospital.
“A boda guy called Barnabas was shot while attempting to save my brother’s life, Barnabas we are told is at Mulago hospital receiving treatment, we are praying for his speedy recovery and we are forever indebted to him for his heroic act.”
Earlier, Police in Kampala Metropolitan confirmed the fatal shooting in a case identified as a suspected aggravated robbery in Ntinda, a Kampala suburb but were yet to reveal extra details of the victims involved.
“Kira Road Police have responded to a scene of aggravated robbery in Ntinda. Tragically, one person has been confirmed dead, and another sustained injuries. Further details will be provided as soon as possible,” ASP Owoyesigyire Luke, the KMP Deputy Publicist said in a brief statement on Thursday evening, minutes after Nyanjura’s post on the incident.
As the bereaved await police investigations into the fatal shooting, Nyanjura said “A church Service for Albert Cook will be held today, Friday at 2; 00 PM at St Luke Church Ntinda” as they await a family decision on the day for the final send-off of their beloved one.
