Kampala, (UG):- The Uganda Police has revealed that a series of successful operations were carried out last week resulting in arrests and seizures and the destruction of illicit marijuana gardens in the force’s determined effort to combat the cultivation, sale, and consumption of cannabis across the country.
Police spokesperson, ACP Rusoke Kituuma, confirmed on Monday that in one of the operations carried out on November 21, 2024, a 52-year-old Oguti Robert was arrested in Mbale after he was found to be the owner of a marijuana garden discovered in Nangirima Upper Village, Lwaboba Parish, Bumasikye Sub-county.
The following day, November 22, 2024, police raided a bar in Gogonya in Wakiso district around 11:00 AM. Although the owner fled, officers apprehended Nakawunde Lydia and Kawoya, who were caught smoking marijuana.

“This bar is suspected of primarily distributing marijuana under the guise of being a legitimate establishment and was found with significant stocks of the drug,” ACP Kituuma said during the weekly security briefing at Naguru police headquarters.
In Iganga District, operations in Busei A and Nampirika led to the arrest of twelve suspects on November 22. These arrests, Kituuma said, were part of a broader effort to curb drug-related crimes in the region.
And on November 23, 2024, a successful intelligence-led operation occurred in Bengazi-Ghetto within Ttega Cell, Nabbingo Ward, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District. This operation focused on specific areas known for drug stores and distribution points. Police detained Kyalimpa Evelyn (42), who was found with a sack containing multiple rolls of marijuana and confessed to her involvement in the crime.
During the raid, police arrested a 42-year-old Kyalimpa Evelyn was arrested while in possession of a sack filled with marijuana rolls who confessed to her involvement in the illegal trade.
Additionally, the police operation on November 21, 2024, at midnight, in Ntinda along Stretcher Road resulted in the arrest of eighteen individuals suspected of phone snatching, with eight motorcycles also impounded.
These operations reflect the Uganda Police’s ongoing commitment to curbing drug-related crimes and other illegal activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens.
“We are committed to combating the illegal cultivation of marijuana. Our efforts are focused on dismantling such operations to safeguard communities,” police emphasized.
