The Uganda Police Force has unveiled a dedicated WhatsApp number as part of its official communication tools in a move to enhance public safety and streamline crime reporting in the country.
The new WhatsApp adds on the existing toll-free lines for traffic and fire incidentsl.
“We know that people are on WhatsApp. So we have introduced a WhatsApp line where you can share messages directly with the Uganda Police. The number is 077999999,” said Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma while addressing journalists at the Naguru Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
He emphasized the importance of leveraging technology to improve public access to police services and highlighted the availability of toll-free lines to address specific emergencies.
“For traffic incidents across the country, you can reach us at 0800199099, and for all fire-related emergencies, we have a dedicated line at 0800121222,” Rusoke added.
The new channels according to police aim to ensure quicker response times and encourage citizens to actively participate in maintaining law and order.
Kituuma urged the public to use these platforms responsibly by sharing accurate and timely information to help curb crime and enhance safety.
As Uganda Police continues to adopt innovative approaches to community policing, the WhatsApp and toll-free lines are expected to bridge communication gaps and foster greater trust and collaboration between the force and the public.
