One arrested, another on the run over Busega aggravated robbery

Kampala, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan have arrested a suspect in connection with an armed robbery that left a man tortured and held hostage for hours in Busega. The incident occurred on December 12, 2024, at around 3:00 pm.

The victim, Kafeero Emmanuel, a 30-year-old resident of Masanda Zone in Kyengera Town Council, was reportedly ambushed by two assailants armed with a panga, knives, and a stick while travelling along Busega road en route to Mityana.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Mr Patrick Onyango, the attackers dragged Kafeero into a swamp, subjected him to torture, and robbed him of his phone, Shs 20,000, and 20 packets of yoghurt.

“Kafeero was held hostage until around 9:00 pm when the suspects fled the scene,” Onyango revealed in a statement released on Monday.

Following the incident, Kafeero reported the matter to Busega Police Station, which launched an operation with assistance from UPDF officers.

During the operation, Onyango says police apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Kizito Henry, a 19-year-old boda-boda rider but his accomplice managed to escape.

Kizito is currently detained at Nateete Police Station, and a case of aggravated robbery has been registered against him.

Police also recovered critical exhibits, including a panga, four new knives, and a metallic rod believed to have been used in the attack. “One suspect was injured during the operation and is currently receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital under police guard,” Onyango added.

He assured the public that investigations into the case are ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend the second suspect.
