Kampala, (UG):- Prof. Lawrence Muganga, the Vice Chancellor of Victoria University has opened up about his journey from being a passionate sportsman and how he ended up as an academic leader.
Recalling his days as a sports prefect and football player at Mende Kalema Secondary School, Muganga reflected on a dream he once cherished playing for the Uganda Cranes and possibly leading Uganda to the FIFA World Cup.
“Had it not been for serious injuries, I might have had the honour of serving the @UgandaCranes
and helping Uganda reach the @FIFAWorldCup,” Muganga wrote in a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter).
The VU Vice Chancellor expressed both wistfulness and gratitude saying while his dream of donning the national team jersey was cut short, his life’s path has been nothing less than a blessing.
“Though my dream of playing for the Uganda Cranes did not materialize, the path I have walked has been nothing short of a blessing. I thank God for His mercy and guidance,” he wrote. “We have indeed come a long way, and I am forever grateful for His grace and unfailing love.”
His journey, marked by resilience and faith, led him from the football pitch to becoming a prominent academic leader, and today, his leadership and passion are now channelled into transforming lives through education at Victoria University, a journey he describes as deeply fulfilling.
As he continues his work at VU, Prof Muganga remains grateful for the lessons learned and the opportunities that lie ahead. “Thank you, Lord, for the journey, for the lessons, and for the future ahead,” he added.
Muganga’s story is an inspiring reminder that dreams may evolve, but the journey, guided by faith and perseverance, holds far greater rewards. What might have been a football star has now become a beacon of knowledge and leadership, impacting lives in ways he never imagined.
