Kiryandongo, (UG):- Bweyale town was transformed into a vibrant arena of celebration as Hon. Ngompek Linos, the Member of Parliament for Kibanda North in Kiryandongo District, spearheaded the grand finale of the Yoweri Kaguta Museveni (YKM) tournament on Christmas Day.
The event, organized for Boda Boda groups in conjunction with the Bweyale Boda Boda Association, highlighted the MP’s commitment to sports, youth empowerment, and the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The highly anticipated final match featured Nyakadote United FC squaring off against Kiryandongo Hospital Boda Boda FC in an intense showdown. Nyakadote United emerged victorious, claiming a decisive 2-0 win. The team walked away with a brand-new motorcycle and a gleaming trophy as their prize.
The second-place team, Kiryandongo Hospital Boda Boda FC, was awarded UGX 1 million, while the third and fourth-placed teams each received UGX 500,000.
In a show of appreciation and inclusivity, all 28 participating teams were given a full set of jerseys and a soccer ball each. Additionally, referees officiating the tournament were gifted two sets of jerseys each, underscoring Hon. Ngompek’s acknowledgement of their vital role in ensuring the success of the games.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ngompek, a former Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kiryandongo and a staunch supporter of President Museveni and Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, reiterated his commitment to fostering unity and development through sports.
“This tournament goes beyond competition; it is a platform for building teamwork, resilience, and unity among our people,” he said. “The NRM stands for empowering communities, and I am proud to support initiatives that strengthen the social fabric of Kibanda North.”
The YKM tournament, which has grown to become a major event in the district, was met with overwhelming support from locals. Crowds filled the streets of Bweyale in celebration, showcasing the unity and excitement the tournament brought to the community.
Hon. Ngompek’s continued efforts to blend politics with community engagement have cemented his reputation as a leader dedicated to grassroots development. His support for youth empowerment initiatives, especially among the Boda Boda community, has not only strengthened his political base but also left a lasting impact on the region.
