Presidency mourns tragic passing of RDC Nusura Nabukalu

The office of the president Sunday mourned the tragic passing on of the Budaka Deputy Resident District Commissioner Hajjat Nabukalu Nusura who perished in a fatal road crash at Musita village, Baitambogwe Sub County in Mayuge District along the Iganga-Jinja Highway.

The accident which occurred at around 5pm involved the RDC’s vehicle, a Toyota Double Cabin of Reg No. UG 4803C which was moving towards Jinja before colliding head-on with an Isuzu Reg No. KDH 025V travelling in the opposite direction.

Eye witnesses have attributed the accident to reckless driving by the RDC’s driver who was reportedly overtaking at a prohibited spot before ramming into an oncoming vehicle.

The Minister for Presidency Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda who happens to be her boss announced the sudden passing on of the RDC via her X account, describing the incident as a painful loss at the time citing that she was dedicated in serving her motherland.

“I announce the heartbreaking news of the death of the Deputy RDC Budaka Hajjat Nabukalu Nusura who has died in an accident this evening at Musita. So painful loss at this time. She will be dearly missed for her dedicated services to the motherland. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” Minister Babalanda posted via her official X account on Sunday evening.

Preliminary findings obtained by DailyExpress indicate that the late Deputy RDC was on her way from Nawansinge village, Bulamagi Sub County in Iganga district where she was the chief guest at a thanksgiving ceremony organized by Mr. Wekiya Cyrus, a local journalist attached to a Jinja-based radio.

Upon learning about the bad news of the accident, some of the people who were at the thanksgiving including Iganga municipality mayor Mr. Bamu Lulenzi rushed to the scene to save her life but unfortunately died in the process.

“Unfortunately Hajjat Nabukalu who was the chief guest perished in an accident that occurred at Musita along Iganga-Jinja highway. We rushed at the scene to save her life but we couldn’t manage,” Mr. Lulenzi said.

Similarly, the Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Hajji Kirunda Faruk has described the deceased as a tested, trust, focused and straightforward cadre of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, who caught the eyes of the appointing authority because of her unshakable zeal for the party and the nation in general.

“The Deputy RDC Budaka, Hajjati Nabukalu Nusura, who has died in an accident in Musita this evening, has been a tested, trusted, focused and straightforward cadre of the NRM. She was appointed because of her unshakable zeal for the party and nation,” Hajji Kirunda said in his message on X account.

Kirunda praised Nabukalu for her service without blemish at all level right from the local council structures where he (Kirunda) first heard about her in his young age, adding that her death in line of duty deserves to be celebrated and emulated.

Uganda’s Ambassador to Russia, Mr Moses Kizige has described Nabukalu as a humble person. “I nurtured her into politics. She has been humble. We shall miss her,” he said.

Major Martha Asiimwe, the head of the RDC Secretariat in Uganda described the death of Hajjat Nabukalu, as a significant loss to both the presidency and the nation.

Palisa Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Majid Dhikusooka said Nabukalu will be laid to rest on Monday (December 30, 2024) in Jinja City Muslim Cemetery at 4 pm.
