Iganga, (UG):- Security authorities in Busoga East region Monday issued guidelines to be adhered to by the public during the celebrations of new-year Eve as people across corners of the region gear up to usher in 2025.
In a joint press conference held at the regional police headquarters in Iganga, the Busoga East Regional Police Commander (RPC) ACP Norman Musinga asked people to celebrate in secure places and ensure that their homes are secured to avoid theft and he warned people against firing unauthorized fireworks citing that this calls for clearance from police and only permitted areas will be allowed to launch fireworks in the space.
“Fireworks are cleared by police headquarters and a list of those cleared to display fireworks is already available to the public. We shall not allow anyone who is not cleared because we need to ensure that they are handled well because they are dangerous if mishandled,” ACP Musinga said.
For cases of crossover prayers, ACP Musinga asked those who have organized prayers to cooperate with police in the area saying they have installed joint operations involving officers in uniform and plain clothes and asked organizers to seek police clearance. He asked the public to report any suspected explosives to security for action.
He offered stern warning to people planning to burn tyres and other items citing that it is prohibited and their motorized and foot patrols will be ready to apprehend elements of lawlessness on the new-year Eve, adding that operations against roadside sellers of bottled petrol are underway to ensure the safety of people.
The commandant Magamaga Cantonment, Brigadier General Augustine Kamyuka Kyazze said all people should be responsible for security by avoiding acts of lawlessness. He asked people to ensure personal security and hotels to ensure the security of their customers by effecting checks in and out.
“We are always after prevention other than curing and I urge people in Busoga to be lawful. Avoid drunk driving and beating your colleagues with the influence of alcohol,” Kyazze said asserting their preparedness as an army to back up police whenever they are called to intervene.
Meanwhile, the RegionalTraffic Officer Busoga East region SP Kizire Nasser urged all drivers to be responsible on the roads, warning them of reckless and drunk driving as this can result in crashes. He asked all road users to be patient on roads as some cases of accidents are caused by human errors.
“We have operations targeting those without driving licenses. We ask you to be patient while intending to overtake and speeding is another factor resulting in accidents,” SP Kizire said before asking the public to report any case of lawlessness on the roads for traffic police to take action.
Conclusively, the RISO Busoga East region Mr. Ali Wagongoba urged people to treat the country as their property and report suspicious activities citing that, “all civilians are responsible for security and we are the ones in plain clothes who feed information to these ones in uniforms. Therefore we need to report cases of lawlessness.”
