Kampala, (UG):- The Police in Kampala are actively investigating a disturbing case of aggravated robbery after a Kampala businessman lost up to Shs30.7 million in a broad daylight incident in Uganda’s capital.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Mr Patrick Onyango identified the victim as Mr Francis Baraka was attacked at about 10:30 am by a group of masked men riding on boda-bodas at 5th Street Junction, Mutabazi Lane in Kampala’s Central Division.

The incident, police say, prompted Baraka to report the incident to Jinja Road Police with the money in cash, ATM cards and other vital identifications all robbed of him by the unidentified thugs.

Baraka had withdrawn the money from a KCB Bank branch on 6th Street before he was confronted by the suspected robbers armed with a panga.

“A team of investigators is diligently tracing Baraka’s movements from the start of his journey to the location of the incident. Numerous clues have been gathered to aid in the ongoing efforts to apprehend the suspects involved in this crime,” Onyango said during a Monday press briefing at Naguru Police Headquarters.

He cautioned business owners to avoid carrying large sums of money saying; “If necessary, they should consider requesting escorts when transporting large amounts of cash.”

This is not the first time such incidents involving thugs on motorcycles robbing businessmen, mostly foreigners who move with bags of money and other valuables in Kampala.

Last year a gang of more than 10 people riding on motorcycles attacked Jiwan Lal, an accountant working with Rigil Agro Peck Limited in Kololo.
