MP Nandala fumes after officials include road he funded in Sironko district report

Budadiri West MP, Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, leads the group on Wednesday during a road monitoring exercise in Sironko District

Sironko, (UG):- Budadiri West MP, Hon. Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Wednesday expressed outrage during a road monitoring exercise in Sironko District after discovering that a road he personally funded for maintenance was falsely included in the district’s report as one of the roads allegedly worked on by the local government.

Hon. Nandala had embarked on the monitoring exercise alongside key district leaders, including Sironko Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Nelson Kirinda, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Bulwaniregha Denis Ephraim, and all district councillors. The joint monitoring exercise, funded by Nandala himself, aimed to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

Speaking during the exercise, the MP stressed that his objective was not to unfairly target anyone but to fulfil his oversight role as mandated by law.

The controversy emerged in Bukhulo Sub-County, where Hon. Nandala discovered that a road he had personally financed for maintenance was falsely listed among the district’s completed works. This revelation infuriated the MP, who demanded an explanation from district officials.

However, Assistant Engineer Nasusi Charles failed to provide a clear response regarding the discrepancy.

District Chairman David Livingstone Giruli admitted that the engineering department faced significant challenges, including poor oversight. He also pointed fingers at councillors, accusing some of being compromised to support questionable actions.

Giruli promised to take steps to improve service delivery and prevent such incidents in the future.

The monitoring exercise, which aims to inspect infrastructure projects across the district, will continue in the coming days as Hon. Nandala seeks to ensure that government resources are used effectively and for their intended purpose.
