Iganga, (UG): The Iganga Municipality Mayor hopeful, Mr. Kongola Nasser, has announced his intentions to participate in the race in the upcoming general elections of 2025/2026.
He made the announcement during an interview with DailyExpress on Monday putting an end to rumours that he was to recontest for the LC V seat in Iganga District.
Mr Kongola, who is the Mobilizer for the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Iganga District, revealed that he will contest for the mayoral seat under the party ticket, the same ticket he used to contest for the Iganga LC V seat in the last general elections.
His announcement followed the commencement of the general update of the National Voters’ Register in preparation for the 2025–2026 General Elections by the Uganda Electoral Commission (EC).

The exercise, which will run up to February 10, 2025, daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., was officially launched today, Monday, January 20, by EC Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon at Kamwokya II, Kampala Central Division, in Kampala City.
Speaking at the official launch of the exercise, Justice Byabakama emphasized the importance of updating the National Voters’ Register to ensure that all eligible Ugandans are included in the electoral process. He highlighted that this exercise will allow citizens who have turned 18, relocated, or changed their particulars to update their information.
“The voters’ register is the cornerstone of a credible electoral process. It is our responsibility as Ugandans to ensure that we participate in this critical exercise to avoid being disenfranchised during the elections,” Justice Byabakama noted.
Others who are eyeing the Iganga Mayoral Seat so far include Musa Sengoba (NRM) and Maganda Sowede (FDC).
