RUGBY🏉: Victoria University Sharks, Warriors, face off in weekend duel

Kampala, (UG):- Victoria University Sharks are gearing up for their next challenge as they return to action this Saturday, February 1st, taking on the Warriors in the Rugby Nile Special Premier League at Legends Rugby Grounds at 2 PM.

After a tough loss to the Black Pirates in their last outing, where they fell 28-13, the Sharks will be looking to bounce back.

Despite some mistakes, particularly in defensive breakdowns, the Sharks’ resolve remains strong. Key players like Alema Ruhweza and Humphrey Tashoby showed flashes of brilliance in the previous game but will need to be more consistent this time around.

Victoria Sharks, which was formed as Victoria University’s rugby team in 2023, have already made significant strides in their short history.

In their first full XV season in 2024, they dominated the Central Regional Championship and National Promotional Playoffs, going undefeated.

Their rapid rise to top-flight rugby came after an impressive offseason, with the team signing a record 37 players, including former Rugby Cranes vice-captains Charles Uhuru and Paul Epillo, along with a host of experienced local and international talent.

Under the guidance of forwards coach Cyrus Wathum, the Sharks are refining their play and are determined to improve after their recent loss.

The squad’s blend of youthful energy and seasoned professionals, many of whom have joined the team through scholarships, will give them the depth needed to compete at the highest level.

As the only academic institution in Uganda’s top rugby league, Victoria Sharks are breaking new ground. They’ll play their home games at Kyadondo Rugby Club, while their second team will compete in the Reserve League.
