Eng. Julius Nakiyi, the director of Rosewood Hotels, Monday, January 20, released a tentative program for his campaign as he prepares to contest for the Budadiri East Parliamentary seat in the 2026 general elections.
Nakiyi who previously contested but lost out to current MP Sasaga Isaiah Wanzira in the 2021 elections says he will run on the NRM ticket. He announced that his campaigns for the long journey to Parliament will officially launch on February 1st, in Elgon Sub-county with schedules for other sub-counties to be shared thereafter.
But who is Julius Nakiyi?
Early Life and Education
Born in 1981 to Mr. Wodulo Sofaki and Mrs. Janet Wodulo in Buhugu Sub-county, Budadiri County, Sironko District, Julius M. Nakiyi hails from the Namwamba Kyabo clan. He is the grandson of the late Mr. Nabugodi Azulugadi (paternal) and the late Mr. Wetaka Abilisayi (maternal).
Julius began his education at Buhugu Primary School before joining Nabumali Boarding Primary School. For secondary education, he attended Masaba S.S.S., where he served as Vice Chairman of the Student Council, later excelling in his O-level examinations at Mbale S.S.S. in 1998 with aggregate 8, the best in the greater Mbale District.
He pursued A-level studies at King’s College Budo, excelling in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and General Paper with a BAA1 score in 2000. In 2001, Julius joined Makerere University on a government scholarship, earning a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. While at Makerere, he served as General Secretary (Prime Minister) of the Student Guild (2003/2004) and represented Nsibirwa Hall in the Guild Council for two terms.
Professional Career
Julius started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 2005, where he excelled in auditing and compliance. PwC sponsored him to complete the ACCA qualification, which he achieved in 2008 alongside earning a first-class degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
His career highlights include:
- Conducting audits for donor-funded projects and private entities at PwC, including a brief assignment with PwC Tanzania.
- Serving as Country Head of Audit and Compliance for Ecobank Rwanda, contributing to reviews of subsidiary operations across Africa.
- Working with Access Bank Nigeria as Regional Head of Internal Control and later as Country Head of Internal Control for Access Bank Rwanda.
In 2010, Julius founded Nakiyi and Partners Certified Public Accountants, offering services in auditing, business planning, feasibility studies, and advisory across the region.

Julius is a Senior Partner at Nakiyi and Partners and holds key roles in various ventures, including:
- Mbale Rosewood Hotel Ltd
- Rosewood Hotel Kampala (under construction in Buziga-Munyonyo)
- Ascendismed Foundation Ltd, a Kololo-based emergency medical services firm in collaboration with MRDC International.
He also runs a family dairy farm in Kasanda and invests in real estate.
Community and Charity Work
As a dedicated Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Kampala Munyonyo, Julius actively supports community development, church initiatives, and social causes. His notable contributions include funding the painting of North Mbale Cathedral.
Political Ambitions
A loyal member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Julius is committed to advancing development in Sironko. His political engagements include; hosting the 2024 NRM Liberation Day in Sironko District and Sponsoring the 2023 ONC ceremony at Mbale Cricket Ground.
He aims to transform Budadiri East through infrastructure development, educational advancement, and economic empowerment.

Julius is married to Mrs. Jackie Nabaasa Nakiyi, and they are blessed with children. He envisions contributing to Africa’s transformation through ethical and impactful initiatives.
