Man arrested over father’s murder in Rwampara

Rwampara, (UG):- The Territorial Police in western Uganda’s Rwampara District have arrested a man in connection with the murder of his father, Tumwesigye Damazo, a resident of Mweya Cell, Nyeihanga Ward.

The suspect, identified as Banabas, was apprehended after a police canine, Hector, tracked a scent from the crime scene to his home, approximately 1.5 kilometers away.

“Residents found Damazo’s body in a roadside trench on February 22, 2025, and alerted Police which introduced its canine unit dog Hector to the scene of crime. Hector tracked a human scent from the crime scene to Banabas’ home, approximately 1.5 kilometers away,” police said in a statement on Tuesday, February 25, 2025.

During a search of the home, investigators recovered a blood-stained black T-shirt, which Banabas’ wife had reportedly taken to a neighbor’s house. Preliminary findings suggest that the father and son had a history of unresolved disputes, potentially linked to the crime.

Rwampara District Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding Damazo’s murder.
