Entebbe, (UG):– A police operation targeting reckless drivers along Entebbe Road on Wednesday led to the arrest of several motorists and the impounding of multiple vehicles at Nkumba University Junction, a known black spot for fatal accidents.
The Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety Spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura, said the traffic police carried out the enforcement exercise to curb careless driving, particularly “drivers who make U-turns, putting lives at risk.”
“This junction has tragically become a black spot, claiming lives due to careless driving. To address this, an operation has been conducted & resulted into impounding of the following vehicles:- UBF 654H, UAV 839U, UBP 854F, UBF 444F, UBG 766U,UBN 828U, UBK 741N, UBP 693G,UAS 824Q,UBN 660Z,UBR 335R, UAH 710Q, UBP 034, UBD 902D,” he added.
According to SP Kananura, all the arrested drivers have been detained at Entebbe Police Station and will be charged with careless driving in court.
“All the drivers have been arrested & detained at Entebbe Police Station, where they will be held pending appearance in court on charges of careless driving,” he said, adding; “We will continue to enforce traffic laws to prevent further accidents and save lives.”
Entebbe Road has been identified as one of the busiest and most accident-prone highways in Uganda, with frequent reports of reckless driving, speeding, and disregard for traffic signs. The latest police operation is part of a broader effort to reduce road carnage and improve safety for all road users.
The Traffic Directorate urged “all motorists to respect road signs and rules to prevent crashes and save lives.”
