Kibuku, (UG):- The Territorial Police in Kibuku District are investigating a tragic case of mob justice that led to the brutal killing of a 32-year-old man, Ashaba Charles, in Kanyolo village during the early hours of Sunday, March 2, 2025.
The shocking incident has raised significant concerns over mob justice in the region.
According to police reports, Ashaba, a peasant from Katingholi Village, was suspected of theft and pursued by a group of local villagers from the direction of Buseta. The mob cornered him near a swamp along the Kanyolo-Buseta road, where he was violently assaulted, resulting in multiple deep cuts across his body.
Shockingly, a chick and a duck were found tied to him when authorities arrived at the scene.
In response to the incident, police officers from the Central Police Station (CPS) in Kibuku quickly arrived at the crime scene to document the evidence.
The Bukedi North Regional Police Commander ACP Mwanga Kitiyo Moses confirmed that the body of the deceased was recovered and transported to Kibuku Mortuary for a postmortem examination, while the police have opened a case of murder by mob and are actively investigating the matter.
Residents of Kibuku have expressed their outrage and fear over the escalating trend of mob justice. Kirya Aloysious, the Local Council I Chairman for Kanyolo 1 zone, said, “This is a wake-up call for our community. We cannot take the law into our own hands. We must find a way to address crime without resorting to violence.”
“We need to work together to restore trust in our justice system,” he added.
