Mogadishu, (SMA):– Uganda’s peacekeeping efforts in Somalia have received high praise, with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) commending the Uganda Police Force (UPF) for its role in enhancing security and stability in the region.
During a meeting held in Mogadishu on Saturday, Uganda’s Police Director of Operations, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Frank Mwesigwa, engaged in discussions with AIGP Hillary Sao Kanu, AUSSOM’s Police Commissioner. The dialogue focused on the contributions of Ugandan police officers serving under the mission.
AIGP Sao Kanu acknowledged the professionalism and dedication of Uganda’s police personnel, particularly their effectiveness in carrying out peacekeeping duties in the volatile Horn of Africa nation. She emphasized their role in mentoring, training local forces, and ensuring stability in critical areas.
Following the meeting, AIGP Mwesigwa took to his official X platform to express gratitude to Ugandan officers deployed in Somalia, recognizing their exceptional service.
“Today, I held a meeting with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia ( AUSSOM) Police Commissioner, AIGP Hillary Sao Kanu, in Mogadishu, Somalia. She underscored the dedication and effectiveness of Uganda Police in enhancing stability and security in Somalia,” AIGP Mwesigwa stated.
“I thanked our Formed Police Unit and IPOs for their unwavering commitment and exceptional performance in the peacekeeping mission in Somalia. Their professionalism, courage, and dedication have set an exemplary standard for peacekeepers across the African continent,” he added.

AIGP Mwesigwa also acknowledged the appreciation conveyed by AIGP Sao Kanu, who underscored “the dedication and effectiveness of Uganda Police in enhancing stability and security in Somalia.”
The meeting was also attended by AUSSOM Deputy Police Commissioner SCP Amoru Martin and other senior officials.
Uganda has been a key contributor to the African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia, deploying both military and police personnel to combat insurgency and strengthen local law enforcement.
Recently, AUSSOM honoured 160 Ugandan police officers for their exceptional service, awarding them African Union medals of honor for their bravery and commitment to peacekeeping operations.

The UPF’s role in Somalia is part of Uganda’s broader commitment to regional stability, with its officers actively engaged in training Somali security forces, community policing, and maintaining law and order in key urban centres.
Uganda’s police presence in Somalia under AUSSOM continues to play a crucial role in ensuring peace and security, reinforcing its reputation as a leading contributor to continental peacekeeping missions.
