Bugweri, Uganda: Residents of Namiganda village in Ibulanku Sub County, Bugweri District have commended their Woman MP, Hon. Racheal Magoola, popularly known as Obangaina, for lobbying a hand tractor to support smallholder farmers in the area.
The equipment, sourced from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries and Fisheries (MAAIF), is intended to benefit households with small gardens who could not previously afford services from the larger garden tractor delivered to the district by Hon. Magoola during the 2023 Women’s Day celebrations.
During the handover ceremony on Monday, locals expressed relief, noting how costly it has been to plough even an acre of land.
“We thank Hon. Magoola for lobbying this tractor, it will help us a lot. They usually charge Shs60,000 to plough an acre, and not everyone has that money. This tractor is cheaper to run because it uses less fuel,” said Mutesi Sulaina, a resident of Namiganda.
Kakaire Peter Brian praised the MP and the government, pledging to use the equipment properly and calling for more hand tractors to benefit the wider district.
Mr. Menha Badiru, LC1 Chairperson of Bukenke village, said the machine is expected to serve over 600 households, complementing ongoing agricultural activities under the Parish Development Model (PDM).
“This hand tractor is ideal for small-scale farmers. It consumes less fuel and will help us clear land to grow tomatoes, cabbages, and other crops. It’s a big boost,” added Mr. Kigenyi Ali, Chairperson of Namiganda Parish.

Hon. Magoola urged locals to form a management committee to oversee the proper use and maintenance of the tractor, emphasizing that it is best suited for farmers with one and a half acres or less.
“This tractor is government-given, and I ask you to take good care of it. It complements the big tractor and will support small plots, with the handler guiding its operations,” she said, noting that it will also serve other sub-counties in Bugweri.
