Pallisa, Uganda: The State Minister for Works, Hon. Musa Francis Ecweru, has announced plans to commission the newly completed Aleles Bridge, a key transport link between Pallisa and Ngora districts, marking yet another milestone in Uganda’s ongoing infrastructure expansion under the NRM government.
Hon. Ecweru made the announcement while launching the Saaka Bridge that connects Pallisa and Kaliro districts, emphasizing the strategic importance of such projects in easing travel to Northern and Central Uganda.
“Pallisa is very lucky. All the main bridges that make it easier for people to travel to other regions have been completed by Coil Ltd & Motorways Construction JV. I can now travel to Kampala without using the Tirinyi-Iganga road,” Ecweru said.
He applauded both the Pallisa and Ngora district local governments for their role in monitoring the bridge construction and urged locals to make the most of the government’s investment.
“What the NRM government has done in Pallisa is great. The Pallisa that was in darkness has been shone,” he added.

Pallisa District Engineer Mr. Ongwara Michael confirmed to DailyExpress that Aleles Bridge is fully complete and ready for commissioning.
The Resident District Commissioner, Mr Magidu Dhikusooka, hailed the Ministry of Works and Transport for selecting a competent contractor. “I commend the Ministry for choosing a contractor who delivered good service. However, I caution those who damage roads using ox ploughs—such acts will not be tolerated,” he said.
Hon. Ecweru also highlighted that in 2019, the ministry secured funds to construct five strategic bridges aimed at improving regional connectivity. The allocation per bridge was based on size and technical needs; Aleles Bridge (Pallisa District): UGX 261,416,000, Kyabahanga Bridge (Rukungiri District): UGX 180,218,000, Bulandi-Gyira (Sezibwa) Swamp Crossing (Kayunga–Nakasongola): UGX 272,767,500, Buhindagye Bridge (Rubirizi District): UGX 43,554,000, and Ojonai Bridge (Amuria District): unspecified amount.
The completion of these bridges, Ecweru said, aligns with the government’s wider agenda of boosting rural access, trade flow, and regional development.
