Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire: Uganda’s national women’s basketball team, the Gazelles, will face off against continental heavyweights Senegal and Guinea in Group C at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, set to take place from July 26 to August 3 in Abidjan.
The draw, conducted Wednesday, April 23, at the Hotel des Armées in Abidjan, confirmed the final groupings for the continental championship that will bring together Africa’s top 12 women’s teams at the Palais des Sports de Treichville.
Uganda qualified for the tournament after a resounding 74-63 victory over Egypt in the Zone V Qualifiers earlier this year.
Their placement in Group C presents a formidable challenge, as they prepare to face 11-time champions Senegal and a strong Guinean side.
Under the tournament format, the winner of each group will advance directly to the quarterfinals. The second- and third-placed teams will face off in a qualification round for the remaining spots in the last eight.
Defending champions Nigeria headline Group D alongside Rwanda and Mozambique. Hosts Ivory Coast will compete in Group A with Angola and Egypt, while Group B features Mali, Cameroon, and South Sudan.
