Liverpool, England: Liverpool Football Club secured their 20th English top-flight title on Sunday with a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, equaling Manchester United’s record for most league championships.
The win, achieved with four games remaining in the season, marked a triumphant debut for manager Arne Slot, who succeeded Jürgen Klopp last summer.
Despite an early setback when Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke opened the scoring in the 12th minute, Liverpool responded emphatically.
Goals from Luis Díaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah, along with an own goal by Destiny Udogie, sealed the Reds’ 5-1 victory.
Salah’s goal was particularly noteworthy, as it marked his 28th of the season and made him the highest-scoring foreign player in Premier League history, surpassing Manchester City legend Sergio Agüero.
Historic Achievement
This title is Liverpool’s second Premier League crown and their first since the 2019–20 season. Under Slot’s leadership, the team suffered only twice in 34 matches en route to their title win, showcasing a remarkable level of consistency and performance.
The victory also ended Manchester City’s four-year dominance of the Premier League, signaling a new era of competition at the top of English football.
The atmosphere at Anfield was electric as fans celebrated the club’s first league title win in front of supporters since 1990. In a touching moment, Slot led the crowd in a chant honoring his predecessor, Jürgen Klopp, demonstrating the unity and respect within the club.
Slot expressed his gratitude to the fans, stating, “It’s a dream come true to win the league in my first season. The support from the fans has been incredible, and this victory is for them.”
Victory brings Liverpool level with their fallen rivals, Manchester United, on 20 league championships, and made Arne Slot the fifth manager to win the Premier League title in his first season in English top-flight football; after Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, Manuel Pellegrini, and Antonio Conte.
