Accra, Ghana: Uganda’s St. Noa Girls Secondary School Saturday settled for a silver medal after falling 2-0 to hosts Ghana in the final of the 2025 African Schools Football Championship (ASFC) girls’ edition, capping off an impressive tournament run.
Despite the heavy rains that threatened to mar the game at the University of Ghana Stadium, the hosts were relentless and earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Uganda’s powerhouse on the evening.
Playing in their maiden appearance at the CAF African Schools Football Championship, the Black Damsels showed remarkable composure and determination on the road to clinching the title.
After a closely contested first half, midfielder Belinda Kpentey broke the deadlock with a brilliant strike early in the second half, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations. Striker Daniela Abass doubled Ghana’s advantage moments later, sealing the historic win for the hosts.
The Damsel’s title triumph saw them set to pocket $300,000 in prize money, which will be used to support school football development projects as announced by CAF, while Uganda’s St. Noa Girls took home silver and a $200,000 prize cementing their growing reputation in football on the continent.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ competition, Uganda’s St. Mary’s Kitende narrowly missed out on a podium finish. After a goalless semi-final draw against Senegal, Kitende lost 6-5 in a tense penalty shootout.
In the bronze medal match, Kitende started brightly, taking a first-half lead through Henry Muhozi. However, hosts Ghana mounted a second-half comeback, scoring twice to win 2-1 and claim their first-ever boys’ medal at the tournament.
