Wakiso, Uganda: Police have confirmed that businessman Rajiv Ruparelia, the only son of Billionaire tycoon Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, died on the spot following a tragic car crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, May 3, 2025, along the Munyonyo-Entebbe Expressway.

According to a statement issued by Traffic Police Spokesperson SP Michael Kananura, the fatal crash happened at around 1:54 AM at the Busabala Flyover traffic lights in Makindye-Ssabagabo, Wakiso District.

“The crash involved a Nissan GTR motor vehicle registration number UAT 638L, which was traveling from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle after colliding with temporary pavements installed at the roundabout section of the flyover,” SP Kananura stated.

He added that following the collision, the vehicle overturned and burst into flames, leading to the instant death of Rajiv, who was alone in the car at the time.

The police have not yet established the definitive cause of the crash, but investigations are ongoing.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” Kananura said.

Rajiv, 35, was the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, a vast business empire founded by his father, with interests in real estate, hospitality, education, and finance.

His untimely death has triggered an outpouring of grief across Uganda’s business and political circles, with tributes flooding social media and condolence messages pouring in from leaders and entrepreneurs.

He was also a popular rally driver and motorsport enthusiast, widely regarded as the future of the Ruparelia business dynasty.
