Kampala, Uganda: Rajiv Ruparelia, Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group and son of Ugandan Billionaire, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, tragically passed away early Saturday morning following a fatal accident along the Munyonyo-Entebbe Expressway. He was 35 years old.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the crash occurred near the Munyonyo interchange at Busaabala Flyover before the vehicle catching fire.
“Single fatal crash: On 03/05/2025 at 1:54am, a white Nissan GTR (UAT 638L) crashed, overturned & caught fire at Busabala flyover. We have been informed that the driver was Rajiv Ruparelia (35). He died at the scene,” said Owoyesigyire in a bride statement on Saturday morning.
Emergency responders confirmed his death at the scene. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash.
Who was Rajiv
Born on January 2, 1990, in Kampala, Rajiv was the youngest child and only son of Dr. Sudhir and Jyotsna Ruparelia. After completing his education in the UK, where he earned a degree in Financial Management from Regent’s University London, he returned to Uganda to join the family business.
In 2014, he assumed the role of Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, overseeing a diverse portfolio that includes real estate, education, hospitality, and finance.
Under his leadership, the group expanded its footprint across East Africa, launching initiatives like the Speke Resort Convention Centre and the Pearl Business Park in Kampala.
Rajiv was known for his commitment to sustainable development, integrating eco-friendly practices into projects such as the Kampala Kingdom Mall.
In recognition of his contributions to business and innovation, Rajiv was named among Africa’s top 100 young business leaders by Choiseul 100 Africa in 2024.
Personal Life and Legacy
Beyond his business endeavors, Rajiv was passionate about motorsports, actively participating in rally driving and promoting the sport within Uganda. He was also a trustee of the Ruparelia Foundation, focusing on community development, education, and environmental conservation.
Rajiv is survived by his wife, Naiya Khagram Ruparelia, and his parents, Dr. Sudhir and Jyotsna Ruparelia. Funeral arrangements are yet to be released, with the family expected to give details in the coming days.
