Kamuli, Uganda: The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has pledged that the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) will work diligently to fulfill its manifesto promises as the party renews its grassroots structures across the country.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday after participating in the NRM village elections at Busobya Polling Station in Mbulamuti Town Council, Kamuli District, Kadaga emphasized the party’s commitment to strengthening its presence and functionality at the grassroots level.
“As the NRM party, we are working very hard to empower our leaders at the village level, and we shall ensure their welfare is improved,” Kadaga said, calling for increased financial support to local party leaders to boost their efficiency and motivation.
Kadaga, who serves as the NRM’s First National Vice Chairperson (Female) on the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC), was elected as the Publicity Secretary of the NRM Women’s League in Mbulamuti Town Council.
She commended the peaceful and competitive nature of the grassroots elections, describing them as a clear signal of the party’s strength at the village level. “The exercise was peaceful but competitive, and this shows that NRM as a party is still strong,” Kadaga noted.
NRM election officer for Mbulamuti Town Council, Ms. Rehema Lwalanda, who presided over the exercise, lauded the high voter turnout and smooth conduct of the elections despite stiff competition among candidates.
“The turnout was good and this helped us conduct the elections peacefully, although the contest was tight,” Lwalanda said.
Other officials elected during the exercise include Mr. Obida Baligeya Swaibu as NRM Chairperson, Mbode Willy as Vice Chairperson, Mutaasa Moses as Secretary, and Baligoloza Faroq as Publicity Secretary.
The NRM grassroots elections, which began on May 6, are part of the party’s national strategy to rejuvenate its local structures and prepare for the 2026 general elections.
