Somalia: Seventy-nine personnel from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) serving under the United Nations Guard Unit (UNGU) in Somalia have completed a rigorous Battlefield Emergency First Aid (BEFA) training programme aimed at enhancing their combat-zone medical response capabilities.
The course, conducted by the United Nations Transitional Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS) in collaboration with the United Nations Support Office, focused on improving the soldiers’ ability to provide swift, effective lifesaving care during combat and high-risk operations.
Troops were trained in vital techniques including basic life support, wound management, catastrophic bleeding control, infection response, casualty assessment, and hypothermia treatment.
The hands-on training underscored the critical importance of immediate medical attention in reducing battlefield fatalities and ensuring operational resilience.
The programme reflects UPDF-UNGU’s commitment to strengthening its peacekeeping efficiency and maintaining readiness under the United Nations mandate in Somalia.
