ONC Coordinator Irene Adokorach declares 2026 bid for Kiryandongo Woman MP seat

Kiryandongo ONC Coordinator Irene Adokorach is Officially into the race for 2026 Woman MP Bid on NRM Ticket

Kiryandongo, Uganda: The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Coordinator for Kiryandongo District, Irene Adokorach, has officially declared her bid to contest for the Kiryandongo Woman Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections on the ruling NRM party ticket.

Adokorach made the announcement through a heartfelt message shared via social media, where she expressed gratitude to her ONC colleagues and her boss, Chief Muzzukulu Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, for mentorship and the platform that shaped her leadership journey.

“My dear Boss Hajjat Hadijah, you gave me the opportunity to meet new friends who have been instrumental to me as an individual,” she wrote.

“As I embark on my political ambitions, dear colleagues, it is no longer a rumour, I intend to take up the woman MP seat officially for Kiryandongo District. I request your prayers and support because politics is not a one-man show.”

Adokorach previously contested for the Kiryandongo District LC5 Chairperson seat in the 2021 general elections, as an independent candidate, where she emerged second with 6,782 votes, losing to the incumbent, Ms Edith Aliguma Adyeri (NRM), who garnered 13,917 votes.

Her latest declaration comes in the wake of an open race following the 2023 announcement by the incumbent Woman MP, Hon. Helen Kahunde, that she will not seek re-election after serving three consecutive terms since 2011.

Kahunde, a steadfast member of the ruling NRM, has held the position since Kiryandongo was carved out of Masindi District.

Adokorach now joins other aspirants, including Joseline Atuhura, Katusiime Jovia Mbabazi, and Esther Akullo Owor, all eyeing the seat to succeed Kahunde and represent the women of Kiryandongo in the 12th Parliament.
