Budo crowned Kings of Schools Rugby after third consecutive title at USSSA Finals

Mbale, Uganda: King’s College Budo emerged as the national schools champions in boys’ Rugby 15s after narrowly defeating Namilyango College School 14–13 in a pulsating final to lift the title Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) Games final on Tuesday afternoon.

Budo’s captain Arthur Lukoda showed he is the man for the big moments, helping the Wakiso Zone giants to their third straight rugby 15s title at the Secondary Schools Ball Games 1 Championships in Mbale.

The tense showdown, played Tuesday, May 13, in Busamaga, lived up to its billing, with the two traditional rugby powerhouses locking horns in a match that went down to the wire.

Budo’s resilience under pressure, coupled with disciplined defense, saw them come from behind to see off a determined Namilyango side to secure a hard-fought one-point victory, drawing intense interest from students, coaches, and sports fans across the country.

Namilyango had taken an early lead with a 13-0 score, but Budo’s faith stood firm and were resilient enough to stage a comeback, ending the match 41-13 at full time in Ngora.

With the win, King’s College Budo not only walked away with bragging rights but also reaffirmed their continued dominance in school rugby, adding the 2025 title to the rugby trophies won in the past two USSSA editions.
