PICTORIAL: Tweeps, TikTokers use football to raise school fees for Saad Shots’ son

Nsambya, Uganda: Social media influencers from X (formerly Twitter) and vlogging platform TikTok turned their online following into real-world impact when they joined efforts to hold a charity football match on Sunday, May 11, at the Yes Sports Arena in Nsambya.

The match, dubbed #TweepsVsTikTokers, brought together some of Uganda’s most popular online personalities for a cause, raising school fees for the son of the late photographer Saad Byakuleka, aka SaadShots, who passed away in a tragic motorbike crash on April 18, 2025.

Prior to the kickoff, players and fans observed a moment of silence to honour the memory of Saad, a celebrated sports and wildlife photographer with a passion for motorcycles.

The charity match was supported by Gazaland UOX (Gazaland Ugandans on X), a growing online charity movement that unites social media users to support community-driven causes. “This match was organized mainly to raise school fees for Saad Shots’ son,” said Keith Namukangula, known as Keith Namu on X, the lead organizer of the event.

Popular on X as KeithNamu, the Gazaland boss revealed that the group has been active for eight months, starting with an outreach project in Katwe Kinyoro. “Now we’re focusing on helping Saad’s family, especially with his son’s education,” he emphasized.

⚽ Tweeps Edge TikTokers 1-0

On the pitch, the Tweeps, captained by Saurce Garland (alias Soosi), claimed victory after a tightly contested game. Influencer Reecy scored the only goal of the match, leading to a 1-0 win over the TikTokers, who were led by comedian Mikey-Seems-Too-Funny (Michael Ssebamba).

The match was not short on entertainment, as popular musician Mudra D Viral (Sebunya Alfa) joined the TikTokers, showing how Ugandan stars across music, comedy, and social media are uniting for philanthropy.

The crowd, both at the stadium and online, reflected the growing influence of social media platforms in mobilizing support for real-life causes.

Keith also revealed plans to expand the initiative to include netball, ensuring female influencers can actively participate in future editions. “It helps influencers grow their brands while supporting real-life causes. We want to make this a yearly event,” he said.

This was not the first time influencers used football for a noble cause. On April 27, a separate charity match was held at MTN Omondi Stadium, where Team Martin faced off against Team Eddy Kenzo to support the Karothk Kids Foundation, an organization helping vulnerable children access education in Kasese.
