Ms Halima Nedejje celebrates her win with the women.

Mbale, Uganda: Madam Halima Nedejje, the Director of Bugisu Junior School in Nabuyonga ward, has been elected Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women’s League for Mbale Northern City Division in Monday’s party primaries.

Nedejje, a renowned educationist and community mobilizer, officially declared her entry into elective politics last week. Speaking to DailyExpress in a phone interview shortly after the polls, she said her decision to pursue political leadership was driven by a desire to uplift voices at the grassroots level and to promote inclusive decision-making in the city’s development agenda.

The primaries were held at Namakwekwe Primary School under heightened security to ensure a peaceful voting process. Mr. Were Yahya, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Mbale Northern City Division, presided over the exercise. Non-voters were barred from accessing the voting areas in a bid to minimize interference and crowding.

In the same election, Sam Bulombi was elected Chairperson of the NRM Youth League for Mbale Northern City Division, while Counsel Juma Ramadan went through unopposed as Publicity Secretary after his opponent stepped down.

The elections are part of the ongoing NRM party structure roadmap for 2025–2026 as unveiled on April 15, 2025, by Secretary-General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, alongside top officials from the NRM Secretariat.
