Sironko, Uganda: The Minister of State for Karamoja Affairs, Hon. Florence Nambozo, has withdrawn from the re-election for Mutufu sub-county NRM Women’s League chairperson, opting instead to contest for the NRM District Chairperson position in the upcoming party structure elections.
Nambozo made the announcement during a radio talk show on Monday evening, just hours before the scheduled re-election on Tuesday, May 20. The re-election follows a botched voting exercise on Saturday, which was marred by allegations of interference and voter intimidation.
The Minister blasted the decision to hold the re-run within days, branding it a calculated move to derail her growing mobilization efforts across Sironko District. “I will not legitimize a sham process meant to frustrate the will of the people,” Nambozo said, accusing incumbent district NRM Chairperson Hajji Lumolo Mafabi of orchestrating the sabotage.
She alleged that external elements were ferried into Mutufu to distort the vote, describing the entire process as unjust and undemocratic. “My decision to run for district chairperson is about restoring integrity and unity in the party,” she said, adding that many of her supporters have faced harassment and exclusion.
Henry Gibisiwa, a notable NRM mobilizer, applauded Nambozo’s decision, describing it as “a bold and timely step” that will realign the party’s grassroots support ahead of the 2026 general elections.
