Kampala, Uganda: The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially announced the nominees for the 2025 MTN FUFA Awards, slated for Friday, May 30 at the Kampala Serena Hotel, under the theme “Celebrating Football Heroes, Inspiring Future Stars.”
The annual ceremony honours the best of Ugandan football: players, coaches, fans, and technical teams who have demonstrated exceptional performance, commitment, and influence in advancing the sport.
Leading the pack for the Male Player of the Year are Kitara/APR FC’s goal-poacher Denis Omedi, SC Villa’s creative duo Ronald Ssekiganda and Jonah Kakande, Jude Ssemugabi (Kitara FC), and Allan Okello (Vipers SC).
The Female Player of the Year shortlist features Agnes Nabukenya (Kawempe Muslim), Daisy Nakaziro, Nalugya Shamirah, and Nandede Zainah (all from Kampala Queens), alongside Kabusobozi Resty (Lady Doves FC).
In the technical category, Mbalangu Hussein (NEC FC), Ssenyondo Brian (U17 NT), and SC Villa’s Serbian gaffer Dusan Stojanovic lead the nominations for Male Coach of the Year. On the women’s side, Ayub Khalifah Kiyinji (Kawempe Muslim), Issa Hassan (She Corporate), and Frank Anyau (Amus College) have been shortlisted.
Rising stars tipped for the Upcoming Talent Award include BUL FC’s Okello Richard, KCCA FC’s Jara Brian, and Masaka Sunshine’s Bogere James.
For the Beach Soccer Player of the Year, Kasibante Edward (Buganda Royal), Lule Paul (Kampala City BSC), and Nkuubi Brian (St. Lawrence University BSC) are the top contenders. The Futsal Player of the Year category features Ilyas Omar Omran (Kisenyi FC), Joshua Aziku (Park FC), and Tumwesigye Farouk (Mengo FC).
This year’s Fans of the Year nominees include prominent supporter groups like Uncle Money, Kamodo Group, Team Dressers, Byaruhanga, and the colourful Bilangilangi Group.
The Fans’ Ugandan Foreign-Based Player of the Year shortlist celebrates stars flying the Ugandan flag abroad—Bevis Mugabi (Cyprus), Elio Capradossi (Italy), Steven Mukwala and Khalid Aucho (Tanzania), and Rogers Mato (North Macedonia).
FUFA has also introduced the Best Squad of a Particular Year category, featuring the Uganda U17 National Team that won the CECAFA U-17 2024, the Uganda U20 National Team – AFCON 2021 Finalists, and the Uganda Cranes team that qualified for AFCON, breaking the 39-year drought in 2016.

According to FUFA, public voting will officially commence on Saturday, May 24, and will be conducted via MTN USSD codes, which shall be made public on the same day.
