Kampala, Uganda: The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled a new Uganda Premier League trophy named Margherita, a striking silver symbol of prestige that will be awarded to 2024/25 league champions Vipers SC this Saturday at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
In a statement via its website, FUFA said the trophy’s name and design are inspired by Margherita Peak, the highest point in Uganda, rising 5.11 kilometres above sea level atop the Rwenzori Mountains.
The trophy, crafted from fine silver and standing exactly 511 millimetres tall, is a symbolic representation of the pursuit of football excellence in the country. “The new trophy represents not just a reward, but a journey to the summit of Ugandan football,” FUFA said.
The design captures the essence of competition and ambition, with top-flight football teams represented as climbers striving to reach the league’s pinnacle. The vertical stretch of the trophy mirrors Uganda’s majestic mountain ranges, while its crescent-shaped top pays homage to the young moon, a symbol of new beginnings and continuous renewal within the beautiful game.

Some of the key design elements on the new trophy include: a vertically elongated football shape with hexagonal and half-pentagonal patterns referencing classic ball design, a crescent chord across the horizontal axis representing ambition and growth, and a semi-spherical dimpled base flanked by two structural tiers.
The upper tier features engraved text for FUFA and Uganda Premier League, while the lower glossy black base ensures visual contrast and balance. The trophy also features vertical lines along the trunk, simulating the stretched panels of a football, connecting aesthetic beauty with structural narrative.
The Federation emphasized that Margherita is more than a trophy, but a storytelling sculpture forged in silver, a tribute to the teams and players who rise to the top of Ugandan football with resilience and purpose.
This is the first time the iconic Uganda Premier League will be awarded such a symbolically designed trophy, with Vipers SC set to lift it as the inaugural recipients.
