Kampala, Uganda: Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named a 28-man squad for two high-profile international friendlies scheduled for early June in Marrakech, Morocco.
The Cranes will take on Cameroon on Friday, June 6, at 10:00 PM EAT, before facing The Gambia on Monday, June 9, at 6:00 PM EAT, as part of preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The provisional squad includes 12 players from the domestic StarTimes Uganda Premier League and 16 foreign-based professionals. Among the headline inclusions is 31-year-old defender Jordan Obita of Hibernian FC (Scotland), a former England youth international now eyeing his debut for Uganda.
Another notable return is Allan Oyirwoth (from New England Revolution, USA), rejoining the Cranes after over a year’s absence, along with Elio Capradossi, the Italian-based center-back who has recently re-committed to international duty.
New call-up Toby Sibbick (Wigan Athletic, England) joins a rejuvenated backline, while Travis Mutyaba (Bordeaux, France) and Bobosi Byaruhanga (Oakland Roots, USA) headline the midfield.
However, there are omissions as well, most notably Aziz Kayondo and Muhammad Shaban, both of whom featured in Uganda’s recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Local-based players will convene at FUFA House in Mengo on Monday, June 2, before the team departs for Morocco. Foreign-based players are expected to report directly to the training camp in Marrakech.
