Kampala, Uganda: The Office of the National Chairman (ONC) under Senior Presidential Advisor Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye has appointed famed Buvuma youth leader Mr. Ssemuddu Ivan as the new National Coordinator for the Fisheries Sector.
The announcement, made Friday evening by ONC Spokesperson Mr. Kintu Moses via his official X platform, confirms that Ssemuddu will replace Mr. Mukasa Alex with immediate effect.
“The head ONC, SPA Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has appointed Mr Ssemuddu Ivan as the National Coordinator for the Fisheries Sector. Mr Ssemuddu replaces Mr Mukasa Alex. The appointment takes immediate effect. Congratulations,” Mr Kintu wrote.
A former ONC Media Coordinator for Buvuma District, Ssemuddu has been instrumental in grassroots mobilization and advancing the NRM’s socio-economic agenda in island communities, particularly in sectors tied to fishing, transport, and youth livelihoods.
His appointment to lead the fisheries docket under ONC is being seen as both a reward for his activism and a strategic boost for his campaign to become the next NRM Youth League Vice Chairperson (Central Region), a race that is gaining momentum ahead of the party’s internal elections.

Widely respected among Bazzukulu for his eloquence and hands-on leadership, Ssemuddu is expected to utilize the new portfolio to champion sustainable fisheries, improve fisherfolk welfare, and link ONC’s wealth creation message to the fast-growing fisheries economy.
This appointment highlights the trust and confidence SPA Namyalo has in the young cadres rising within the NRM, as political insiders within the ONC ranks believe this new national role places him in a strong position to influence youth-centered policy advocacy, especially in coastal and lakeside districts where fishing is a dominant livelihood.
“This is not just about fisheries. It’s about empowering a new crop of young leaders with both sectoral and strategic influence,” noted one ONC youth mobilizer familiar with the internal dynamics.
Ssemuddu’s national profile with the new role is expected to resonate with young voters across Buganda and beyond, many of whom are looking for relatable leaders with real community impact and clear loyalty to President Museveni’s transformative agenda.
