Bugweri MP Magoola, NRM boss Nkuutu warn of election irregularities ahead of party primaries

Bugweri Woman MP Hon. Racheal Magoola arrives for the belated International Women’s Day celebrations at Bubbala Primary School on Thursday.

Bugweri, Uganda: Bugweri District Woman MP Racheal Magoola and the NRM District Chairperson Hajji Shaban Nkuutu have cautioned the ruling party electoral registrars against irregularities ahead of the 2026 NRM primaries, warning that any attempts to compromise the process will not be tolerated.

Speaking during the belated International Women’s Day celebrations held Thursday at Bubbala Primary School in Buyanga Sub-county, Hon. Magoola emphasized the importance of clean politics, urging residents to reject political blackmail and personal attacks common during campaign seasons.

“I have tried to deliver for the people of Bugweri. With support from partners, we’ve installed boreholes and constructed homes for the needy. Let us focus on development and leave behind petty politics,” Magoola said, adding that her programmes have prioritized women and vulnerable communities.

She rallied youths to engage in the creative sector, beyond just music, by taking up handicrafts and other entrepreneurial activities that can provide sustainable livelihoods.

NRM District Chairperson Hajji Shaban Nkuutu, while addressing the crowd, promised a transparent and disciplined NRM primary election process, drawing lessons from past internal elections that were marred by confusion and manipulation.

“I am not going to entertain confusion in the party. What happened in the NRM structures won’t happen in the primaries. We want someone who can win in the general election—not just hold a party card,” Nkuutu warned.

He accused opportunistic party members of shifting allegiances during elections, branding them “seasonal supporters” whose instability weakens the NRM’s grassroots support.

Nkuutu also threw his weight behind Hon. Magoola, praising her as the “most solid MP in Bugweri” and urged voters to give her another term based on her track record.

Bugweri District Chairperson Hajj Shafic Muziransa, who doubles as the NRM publicity secretary, cautioned opposition politicians, especially those from the National Unity Platform (NUP), against intimidating voters using covert mobilization units dubbed Egaali.

“They’re forming what they call Egaali to scare off our elderly voters. I’m setting up the NRM Bus with 30 strong members per Sub-county to crash their bicycle of two,” he declared.

The colourful event featured entertainment from Afrigo Band and local performers. It was attended by women leaders from across Bugweri, including the District Women League Chairperson, Ms. Nambeko Prossy, who hailed Hon. Magoola for prioritizing women in her service delivery.

Also present was Iganga Woman MP Hon. Kauma Sauda Alibaawo and several technical leaders from Bugweri. The function began with a women’s bicycle race, with winners receiving prizes from Hon. Magoola.
