Marrakech, Morocco: The Uganda Cranes have arrived in Morocco ahead of two high-profile international friendly matches against Cameroon and The Gambia, scheduled for June 6th and 9th, respectively.
The team touched down in Marrakech on Tuesday morning after flying out of Entebbe International Airport aboard Qatar Airways on Monday night. The matches are part of Uganda’s build-up for upcoming continental and international competitions.
Uganda will first lock horns with African giants Cameroon on Friday, June 6, at 10:00 PM. The Cranes will then take on The Gambia on Monday, June 9, at 6:00 PM. Both games will be played in Morocco.
Cranes’ Head Coach Paul Put named a 28-man squad, which includes both local and foreign-based players.
However, the squad saw a late change after Sweden-based forward John Paul Dembe withdrew and was replaced by Muhammad Shaban, who plies his trade with Al-Anwar FC in Libya.
A total of eight foreign-based players are joining the squad directly in Morocco, including Hibernian FC defender Jordan Obita, Italian-based Elio Capradossi, Wigan Athletic’s Toby Sibbick, and Bobosi Byaruhanga from Oakland Roots in the USA.
Obita, 31, born in England to Ugandan parents, previously represented England at youth level but is expected to make his senior debut for the Cranes in these friendlies.
Also returning to the squad is Allan Oyirwoth from New England Revolution (USA), who hasn’t featured for the national team in over a year.
Capradossi is also back after missing several call-ups due to injury, while midfielder Travis Mutyaba and forward Steven Mukwala return with strong form from France and Tanzania, respectively.
