Bulambuli, Uganda: Former Energy Minister and incumbent Woman MP for Bulambuli, Eng. Irene Muloni and newcomer Jackline Nandudu are set for a political showdown in the District Woman MP race, as the ruling NRM party’s primaries gather steam ahead of the July 16 vote.

Eng. Muloni, who was recently elected the District NRM Finance Secretary, launched her re-election bid on Sunday during a massive rally in Muyembe Town Council, an event that drew key party figures, including Elgon North MP Gerald Nangoli, NRM District Chairman Paul Kimamanti, and LCV aspirant Simon Peter Wanazofu.

Muloni, who has represented Bulambuli since 2011, confirmed that her nomination forms had been signed and the campaign trail was now fully underway across the district’s 26 sub-counties and over 1,300 villages.

“I’m very happy that the leaders turned up in large numbers in such a short time. We’re ready to roll out our message across Bulambuli,” she said, while thanking the electorate for their support since she first joined Parliament.

Muloni highlighted key achievements during her tenure, including rural electrification, improved road and health infrastructure, maize milling machines for women groups, agricultural tools, and educational scholarships for youth.

Her rival and political newcomer, Jackline Nandudu Giduno, a native of Buyaga Sub-county, who officially picked up her nomination forms from the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala on Tuesday, vowed to unseat the veteran lawmaker in what she described as a generational transition.

“I am your own child, born, raised, and educated here in Bulambuli. I know the real issues affecting us, and I believe this is the right time to offer myself for leadership,” Nandudu told DailyExpress.

She called for unity and fresh thinking in district leadership, promising to amplify the voices of ordinary residents at the national level. “Let’s unite and walk this journey together. I’ve seen so many things going wrong in Bulambuli, and I’m not coming to rule — I’m coming to represent. I love you all and I humbly ask for your support,” Nandudu added.

The race for District Woman MP has stirred wide political interest in Bulambuli and beyond, with the NRM primaries seen as a key determinant of the district’s political future. As support teams mobilize across villages, the contest is shaping up as a classic political duel between established experience and emerging grassroots energy.

During the Muyembe launch, Paul Kimamanti, the District NRM Chairman, urged for transparent and fair primaries, warning against manipulation. “To produce strong candidates, they must be elected by the people, not through manipulation. There will be no buying or stealing of the party flag under my watch,” he said.

LCV aspirant Wanazofu also used the platform to renew his political bid and called on residents to prioritize unity and reject divisive politics.
