Entebbe, Uganda: Bugisu Cultural Institution Prime Minister, Dr. Paul Mwambu, has departed for China on official duty, where he will combine government agricultural engagements with community mobilization efforts targeting the Bamasaaba diaspora.

Dr. Mwambu, who also serves as Uganda’s Commissioner for Crop Inspection and Seed Certification under the Ministry of Agriculture, left the country aboard Ethiopian Airlines to represent Uganda at an international agricultural summit in China.

Steven Masiga, spokesperson of the Bugisu Cultural Institution, told DailyExpress that while in China, Dr. Mwambu will meet members of the Bamasaaba community living there on the instructions of the Umukuka III of the Bamasaaba, His Highness Sir Jude Mike Mudoma.

“The Prime Minister has been assigned to engage the Bamasaaba in China, mobilize them to support government programs, encourage them to invest back home, and strengthen their connection with the cultural institution,” Masiga said.

Part of Dr. Mwambu’s itinerary includes paying a cultural courtesy visit to Uganda’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Oliver Wonekha, and holding meetings with the Bamasaaba diaspora to encourage unity, development, and investment.

The Bugisu Cultural Institution, under Umukuka Mudoma’s reign, has maintained a strong relationship with the Chinese business community. Masiga revealed that Dr. Mwambu recently wrote to Chinese investors in Uganda requesting humanitarian assistance for landslide victims in Bulambuli, a call that was positively answered by the Sino Industrial Park.

“The relationship with the Chinese business community is excellent. They responded quickly with support for the displaced families in Bulambuli,” Masiga noted.

Dr. Mwambu, who has been spearheading agricultural transformation among the Bamasaaba, recently distributed several tonnes of maize seedlings to clan leaders and emphasized the need for agricultural self-reliance across Masaabaland.

“The Prime Minister is committed to making the Bamasaaba self-sustaining in agriculture and will continue using both government and cultural platforms to mobilize the community,” said Masiga.
