Nakifuma, Uganda: Kamuli District LC5 Chairperson, Charles Maxwell Mugude ‘Kuwembula’, has been confirmed dead in a fatal road accident that occurred along the Nakifuma-Kayunga road this (Thursday) morning.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, the crash occurred near the Ministry of Water and Environment offices in Nakifuma, directly opposite Nakifuma Trust Medical Center.

Kuwembula was reportedly driving a white Toyota Hilux Double Cabin, registration number UG 699M, en route from Kampala to Kamuli, when his vehicle rammed into a stationary yellow Hacman truck, registration number UBR 835K.

Police said Kuwembula died on the spot, and his body was trapped inside the wreckage when officers from Naggalama Police Division responded to the scene.

“The truck was parked along the roadside at the time of the incident. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the crash,” Onyango said.

The driver of the parked truck fled the scene and remains at large, and police have since appealed to members of the public for any information that could aid in tracking down the suspect.

Kuwembula had served as Kamuli District Chairperson under the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and was known for his grassroots mobilization and development initiatives. He was poised to be the NRM flag bearer for the same position in the coming 2026 elections.
