Kampala, Uganda: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed the host cities and group allocations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will take place from August 2 to 30 across Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar.

In a historic first, the tournament will be jointly hosted by four East African nations, a development CAF hailed as a significant step toward regional football integration and development.

Uganda has been awarded the hosting rights for Group C fixtures, which will be played in Kampala and Wakiso. Uganda Cranes will face Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria in what promises to be a highly competitive group.

In addition, Uganda will host the third-place playoff, an opportunity expected to enhance domestic fan engagement and elevate the country’s stature in continental football.

Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, will host the final match and will be the home of Group A, which includes tournament favourites Morocco, Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and hosts Kenya.

Tanzania’s commercial hub, Dar es Salaam, will set the tone with the opening ceremony and Group B matches featuring Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and the Central African Republic.

Zanzibar, participating as an independent co-host for the first time, will stage Group D matches involving Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, Sudan, and Nigeria. CAF confirmed that Congo Brazzaville has replaced Equatorial Guinea in the final draw following a ruling by the CAF Appeals Board.

The 2024 CHAN tournament, reserved for players featuring in domestic leagues, will also mark a logistical milestone for CAF in staging a competition across multiple host countries. The tournament will run under the Pamoja East Africa initiative.
