Masaka, Uganda: Dr. John Spire Kiggundu, the brother to prominent cartoonist and academic Dr Jim Spire Ssentongo, will be laid to rest on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the family’s ancestral home in Butozi, Masaka District, DailyExpress understands.
Dr. Kiggundu, a renowned gynecologist, endometriosis and fertility specialist, and proprietor of Henrob Hospital in Zana, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a Kampala guest house. His untimely death has shocked the medical community and the wider public, with investigations into the cause still ongoing.
According to the burial programme released by Spire on Monday, the funeral starts today with a requiem mass at St. Joseph Lweza Parish at 1:00 PM, followed by a vigil at his home in Zana later in the evening.
On Tuesday, the body will be transported to Masaka for a vigil at the ancestral home in Butozi, starting at 2:00 PM.
Dr Kiggundu’s final send-off will take place on Wednesday, beginning with a funeral mass at 2:00 PM and burial at 4:00 PM.
In a heartfelt tribute on social media, Dr Jim Spire expressed deep grief, describing Kiggundu not just as a sibling but as a father figure. “With your selfless desire to treat and save the lives of others, you got no treatment. John! Does death know?” he wrote.
Dr. Kiggundu was widely respected in Uganda’s medical circles for his expertise in pelvic endoscopic surgery and reproductive care. His hospital in Zana served thousands and stood as a symbol of hope for couples struggling with fertility challenges.
Tributes continue to pour in from patients, colleagues, and public figures, all honouring the legacy of a man described as humble, brilliant, and devoted to saving lives.
