Kampala, Uganda: Former Uganda Cranes striker Ibrahim Kizito, widely known in football circles as “Kizota Mwamba,” has passed away, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) confirmed Wednesday morning.

“The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has learnt with deep sorrow about the death of former Uganda Cranes player Ibrahim ‘Kizota’ Kizito,” FUFA announced on June 25, 2025.

The celebrated forward, who donned the national jersey with distinction and starred for top-flight clubs like Express FC, SC Villa, and KCCA FC, died at the age of 54, marking the end of an era for Uganda’s football fraternity.

FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo also expressed his condolences: “On behalf of FUFA, our members, delegates, and secretariat, I extend deepest condolences to Kizito’s family, Uganda Football Players Association, Ex-Internationals, and the entire football community.”

Police FC, one of his former clubs, also issued a heartfelt obituary. “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former player & ex-international, Kizito Ibrahim, fondly known as ‘Kizota.’

Mr Kizito, uncle to our player Kizito Rayn Figo, was a true servant of the game whose passion inspired many,” the club added. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to Figo, family, friends & all who had the privilege of knowing him.”

The ‘Kizota’ Legacy

Born on March 30, 1971, Kizito’s football career was marked by brilliance, physical dominance, and precision in front of goal. He was a formidable presence in the Uganda Premier League, where he played for Express FC, SC Villa, and KCCA FC, becoming a household name among fans.

Internationally, he represented the Uganda Cranes with pride, contributing crucial goals and lifting the team’s attacking prowess during regional campaigns.

Outside Uganda, Kizito etched his name in history during the 2003/2004 Nigeria National League season, playing across Conference A and B, where he emerged as the top scorer with 10 goals in just 14 appearances; a rare feat for a foreign striker.

The Kizota legacy continues through his family, particularly his nephew Ryan Figo Kizito, a rising star with UPL giants Uganda Police FC.

Burial

Kizito will be laid to rest today, Wednesday, June 25, at the home of Sheik Abudallah Aziz Ssematimba in Kikunyu, Buyega, at 2:00 PM. Friends, fans, former teammates, and officials are expected to attend in large numbers to celebrate the life of a player whose name is etched in Ugandan football history.
