It’s not even music – Bebe Cool reveals genesis of ‘bad blood’ with Bobi Wine

Bebe Cool (L) says personal betrayal, not music, ended his friendship with Bobi Wine.

Kampala, Uganda: Legendary musician Bebe Cool, real name Moses Ssali, has opened up about the personal betrayal he says ultimately destroyed his once-close friendship with fellow singer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.

In a candid revelation, Bebe Cool insisted their fallout was never about musical rivalry as widely believed, but rather a painful moment when Bobi Wine refused to support him during a family crisis.

Speaking during a weekend media interview, Bebe Cool recounted how he and Bobi Wine maintained a cordial relationship despite frequent competition in the music industry. Their wives and children, he said, were so close that they often relied on each other for support during domestic challenges.

“Like any other couples, Barbie and Bobi Wine used to have fights and Barbie would run to my home for a couple of days to seek advice and refuge,” Bebe Cool explained.

However, he said, when his own marriage faced trouble and his wife Zuena temporarily left their home, the dynamic abruptly changed.

“When Zuena left me and went back to her parents’ home, I reached out to Barbie for help. I thought, as a friend to my wife, she would speak to her and help us sort things out,” he narrated.

According to Bebe Cool, instead of receiving support or empathy, Bobi Wine turned the situation into an opportunity to belittle him.

“But when Babie told Bobi Wine about it, instead of helping, he turned around and started insulting me. I was simply asking for help from a friend. Since our families were close, I truly thought they would support me, but it turned out to be the opposite,” he said.

He added that the experience made it clear that Bobi Wine was not someone he could trust or keep in his life.

“The painful part is, his own wife used to run away and come to my place. We would sit, counsel her, and then send her back to him. But when it was my turn to need support, he chose to insult me,” Bebe Cool said.

He stressed that his family remains his top priority, and he is quick to cut off anyone who fails to stand with him in difficult times. “Anyone that doesn’t support me and my family is usually cut off,” he concluded.
