Kampala, Uganda: Prominent Ugandan lawyer Joshua Okello has publicly endorsed President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s bid to extend his leadership beyond 2026, praising what he called a transformative record of political stability, economic growth, and social development.
In a statement released over the weekend, Okello highlighted a range of achievements under the National Resistance Movement (NRM), from restoring national peace to spearheading infrastructure improvements and expanding democratic processes.
“The government of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has achieved significant milestones since taking power, including restoring political stability and security, improving infrastructure, promoting economic empowerment, and enhancing health and education services,” the Soroti-based lawyer said.
On Restoration of Peace and Security, Okello credited the NRM with ending decades of instability that had previously crippled Uganda’s progress.
On Economic Development, he pointed to economic reforms and empowerment programs that opened export markets and boosted productivity.
Infrastructure Expansion: The lawyer commended the regime’s focus on roads, power generation, and connectivity as drivers of socio-economic transformation.
Social Services: Under Museveni, Okello said, Uganda has seen significant strides in education through Universal Primary Education (UPE) and in public health infrastructure.
Democratic Reforms: He further applauded constitutional reforms and regular elections that have brought citizens into national decision-making.
Tourism Growth and National Unity: Okello also cited improvements in tourism, consolidation of national unity, and efforts to defend Uganda’s sovereignty.
Anti-Corruption Efforts: While acknowledging that challenges remain, he noted the NRM’s longstanding commitment—reflected in its Ten-Point Programme—to fight corruption and abuse of power.
“I enthusiastically endorse General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for presidency. I have had the pleasure of witnessing his leadership from the time I was born, and I have consistently been impressed by his exceptional leadership skills,” Okello added.
The Enthusiast lawyer described Museveni as a “strategic thinker, decisive problem-solver, and someone who genuinely cares about the success of the team.”
Okello has therefore urged Ugandans to rally behind Museveni’s candidature to secure continued stability and national progress as the 2026 elections approach.
