Kampala, Uganda: The Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has established a special committee to investigate allegations of sexual harassment and electoral malpractice within the party ranks, pledging tough action against any member found culpable.
The NUP principal said he would not tolerate any form of sexual exploitation or misconduct, stressing that individuals proven guilty would be disqualified and face further disciplinary action.
“I don’t support the sexual harassment allegations that have been brought to my attention,” Bobi Wine said. “As the party leader, I will do everything to stop this from happening if it is really happening.”
He called on victims to come forward with credible evidence, assuring them of protection and a fair hearing. At the same time, he warned that anyone using false claims to blackmail party leaders would also be disqualified.
Bobi Wine further encouraged young women in the party to document any inappropriate advances, including recording conversations to help gather evidence.
“This committee is not here to witch-hunt anyone, but to ensure our party remains a safe, transparent space for all members,” he added.
The committee, chaired by NUP Deputy President for Western Uganda Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba and Deputy Secretary General Hon. Aisha Kabanda, will also probe claims of electoral irregularities allegedly involving senior party figures, including Bobi Wine’s elder brother, Chairman Nyanzi.
