Kampala, Uganda: A leaked list circulating on social media has stirred controversy in the National Unity Platform (NUP), with scores suggesting Kampala Woman MP Shamim Malende and senior party mobiliser Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu have lost out in the Kampala parliamentary flag bearer race.
According to the alleged scores, Nakawa West MP and Leader of Opposition, Hon Joel Ssenyonyi, emerges strongest with 38 marks in vetting and 54 in ground performance, positioning him as NUP’s safest bet in the capital.
The purported list further indicates Kawempe South aspirant Ssemboga Roy (33 vetting, 56 ground) and Kawempe North’s Nalukoola Erias Luyimbazi (38 vetting, 52 ground) as top contenders.

NUP Speaks out on leaked list
However, NUP has dismissed the list as fake. “This is fake, kindly ignore it,” the party said in a brief social media statement, clarifying that no official list of flag bearers has been released.
The suspense comes as the Electoral Commission prepares for Parliamentary nominations on September 16–17, 2025, with campaigns scheduled to begin on September 23, 2025, and polls expected between January 12 and February 9, 2026.
