Kampala, Uganda: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Women’s League National Chairperson leading candidate, Ms Kyanika Rehema, has called for unity and sisterhood among candidates vying for positions in the forthcoming CEC elections, stressing that leadership should be about lifting communities rather than fighting opponents.
Kyanika, who appeared before the NRM Vetting Committee on Wednesday, August 20, said she and fellow contenders resolved to run campaigns rooted in collaboration and shared purpose rather than division.
“We are all ambitious, each with a vision, and hundreds of women rallying behind us, but we do not want this competition to divide us,” the Busoga Princess and Regional Political Mobilizer noted in a statement after her vetting. “Instead of fighting, we have chosen to take a different path of modeling what true leadership should look like.”
Kyanika revealed that the candidates had engaged in dialogue about the challenges facing women across Uganda and agreed that whoever emerges victorious would carry forward the collective agenda.
“Leadership is not about pulling others down, but about lifting the whole community up. Even in competition, we should show that sisterhood is stronger than self-interest,” she emphasized.
The NRM CEC elections are scheduled for August 27–28 and are expected to determine the new leadership of the ruling party’s top policy organ, with over 25000 delegates in attendance at Kololo Independence Grounds.
