Mbale City, Uganda: Ronald Weanga, a resident of Bugema C Cell in Tsabanyanya Ward, Industrial Division, has formally withdrawn his petition against Michael Wakapisi in the Mbale City NRM Election Tribunal, following the August 16, 2025, party primaries for Division Councillor.
In his withdrawal letter submitted through Tribunal Vice Chairperson Neumbe Rebecca, Weanga said he took the decision “for the good of the party and his people.” The tribunal, chaired by Hajji Muzamiru Hirome and comprising members Shaban Kachimete (Secretary), Abdu Magola (Publicity), Samali Abas, Sarah Wasike, Waboga Ali, Umar Waniaye, and Onen Kenneth, welcomed the move.
Speaking to DailyExpress, Weanga confirmed his decision and asked the tribunal to release the two ward registrars detained over alleged mismanagement of the election.
Tribunal Vice Chairperson Rebecca hailed Weanga’s patriotism and urged him to rally behind Wakapisi in the forthcoming general elections. She stressed that the tribunal’s transparency remained intact, noting that the arrested registrars were directly responsible for the irregularities and are still held at Mbale CPS.
Meanwhile, Tsabanyanya Ward LCII Chairperson Muzamiru Abas applauded Weanga’s humility, saying his decision “reflects true leadership and unity within Tsabanyanya and the NRM party.”
