Kampala, Uganda: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Buganda Parliamentary Caucus has unveiled a bold strategy to reclaim political dominance in Central Uganda ahead of the 2026 elections, centering its roadmap on reconciliation and grassroots mobilisation.
Meeting at Hotel Africana in Kampala under the chairmanship of Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka, the caucus rolled out a plan to unify the party’s base and consolidate support across all levels of leadership.
Reconciliation as the Cornerstone
Central to the discussions was the urgent call for reconciliation among NRM members following the hotly contested primaries. Several defeated aspirants have threatened to run as independents, a trend that has previously weakened the party in the region.
AG Kiwanuka urged members to put aside personal grudges, stressing that unity is the only way to ward off the opposition, particularly the National Unity Platform (NUP), which enjoys strong support in Buganda.
“A fractured NRM is an easy target for political rivals. We must all rally behind the flag bearers to ensure victory for the party and our presidential candidate,” sources quoted Kiwanuka as saying.

Adding his voice, Hon. Kasolo, who is also State Minister for Microfinance, emphasized the reconciliation drive as a key part of the consultative meeting which intentionally included both flagbearers and their rivals to “heal internal rifts” and rebuild cohesion.
“Today’s meeting brings together NRM flag bearers, their rivals from the primaries, and district chairpersons to foster unity. The goal is Museveni for Buganda,” he said, framing the campaign under the banner “Buganda ku Museveni”.
Grassroots Mobilisation Drive
Beyond reconciliation, the caucus is intensifying its grassroots engagement plan. The strategy involves mobilising at the village level to highlight the NRM’s achievements in socio-economic transformation and development.
Party insiders revealed that the caucus intends to use this approach to counter opposition narratives, reminding voters of the NRM’s track record in service delivery, infrastructure, and economic progress.
Strategic Stakes in Buganda
Winning Buganda remains a top priority for the NRM, with the region seen as a decisive battleground for both parliamentary control and the presidential race. Party leaders believe that by mending internal cracks and showcasing unity, the NRM can reclaim its traditional dominance in the Central region.
